Green Initiatives
Canterbury Coffee is a Canadian-owned and operated business. We consider it our “business” to preserve the earth, ensure that we are responsible citizens, good neighbours, and leave the world better than we found it.
We believe that being “green” is neither a trend nor a fad; it’s a philosophy and way of life. And it is necessary. As a company, we look for innovative yet often simple, daily practices we can adopt to recycle, reduce, and reuse.
What we are doing

Recycling isn't sexy
But we're doing it anyway
Here are some ways we are trying to make the world a little “greener”:
- Using thermal oxidizers in the exhaust stream of the roaster to effectively burn off the majority of emissions
- Participating in the Chep pallet exchange program so pallets can be re-used
- Composting all chaff generated by the roasting process
- Re-using burlap coffee bags in other industries like construction, forestry, and manufacturing
- Working alongside suppliers to develop and create sustainable packaging
- Recycling all waste cardboard and paper, flexible and rigid plastics, light bulbs and tubes, used machine oils, and batteries consumed in the office and plant
- Adding more fuel-efficient vehicles to our fleet of service and delivery vehicles
- Replacing our HVAC unit with a more energy efficient and O-Zone friendly model
What this means
In the last two years, these initiatives (and others) have enabled us to reduce the amount of waste destined to the landfill by over 50%, which we are truly proud of. With the launch of a Canterbury Green Team, we hope to make even greater strides towards reducing our footprint on the earth.
Looking after each other
More than being good environmental stewards, we think it's also important to look out for our neighbours. As a company, we've always taken an active role in giving back. With the launch of our reSIProcate brand, we made an even greater commitment to improving communities by donating a percentage of the sale of every bag to worthwhile projects.
