Making the Most of Your Brewer
Hario Pour-Over Brewer
The Hario is a very specific, cone filter type brewer used in some upscale coffee shops to allow consumers to have a very direct coffee experience. The technique of pouring the water into the filter is something that takes time to master but it yields a beautiful, smooth cup of coffee.
Hario Filter:
A cone filter, typically size 2, works best for the Hario unit. However, the manufacturer of your unit will recommend the appropriate size for your model.
Let’s Brew:
 | Preparation Gather everything needed: Hario, Filter, Grinder, Spoon, Just-boiled Water, and Timer |
| | Getting Started Place the filter in the Hario. |
 | Prepare the filter The filter needs to be pre-wet in order to wash off any residue flavours of the filter itself. Allow to drip |
 | Weighing Zero the scale so you accurately weigh the coffee |
 | Grinding A medium grind should work well, but you must experiment with your particular coffee to find the grind that works best |
 | Water Pre-measure your water based on the ratio to coffee. Water should be right off the boil or boiled water that has been left sitting for about a minute |
 | Pouring water Pour water in a circular motion to help create turbulence. Pour from the centre and try not to pour the water on the edges where the grind meets the filter. Do not pour too much water at a time |
 | Bloom What a beautiful bloom! |
| | Waiting Allow water to pass through the grinds and drip |
| | Repeat Repeat the cycle of pouring water and waiting for it to pass through the grinds. The process generally takes 2-3 minutes to finish |
| | Enjoy! Coffee is now ready to drink. Pour, enjoy and share! |
