Perfect Coffee to Water Ratio
The general ratio is 1-1 ½ tablespoons of coffee for each cup (6 oz) of water.
The grind you choose affects the strength of your coffee. If the grind is too fine, it will result in a strong and bitter cup; if it’s too coarse of a grind, it will result in a weak cup. It’s also important to know that the grind must match the design and speed of your coffee machine. Most household blade grinders can’t produce a consistent particle size, so opt for a commercial burr grinder for best results.
A cup of coffee is 98% water, so the quality of water that goes into brewing determines the quality of the coffee that comes out. Always use freshly drawn cold water, ideally filtered. Avoid artificially softened water, which will result in a flat tasting cup.
To get the most flavour out of your coffee, brew at least half of your coffee brewer’s capacity.
