Health and Safety

We are fortunate to have two roasting facilities, Richmond and Oakville, that are both Safe Quality Food (SQF) certified - certified facilities that roast and package coffee under guidelines that meet global standards for food safety and quality. Both facilities also are registered with the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA), Safe Food for Canadian Regulations (SFCR), and the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), as well as local health agencies.

Under these food safety and quality programs, Canterbury Coffee has pre-existing policies and procedures established to ensure the food safety of the products that we manufacture as well as the health and safety of our staff. We have established policies and procedures for:

a. Personal hygiene which includes prescribed practices for handwashing
b. Plant and equipment cleaning and sanitation
c. Controls for restricted access into the facility to prevent unnecessary visitors
d. Addressing employees that are ill
e. Handling of biohazard emergencies
f. Crisis management plans to help minimize disruptions to the supply chain for all of our valued customers

In addition, we have initiated the following policies and procedures for staff:
a. We have limited visitors coming to our offices and have asked that those that do, confirm the following:

  •  Are not experiencing any of the following symptoms:
    • Fever
    • Cough
    • Headache
    • Difficulty breathing
  • Have not traveled to any area with the ongoing spread of COVID-19
  • Does not live with anyone who recently traveled an area with an ongoing spread of COVID-19
  • Have not been in contact with someone know to have COVID-19 or experiencing symptoms similar to the flu or COVID-19

b. Travel for business by staff outside and within Canada are temporarily prohibited at this time
c. Staff returning from personal time off that have been outside of Canada, or have recent contact with another person that has visited another country; or is in the care of someone that is ill will be advised to be isolated for 14-day period
d. Encouraging staff to be self-aware to protect themselves and their families by staying in, limiting their exposure while travelling outside of their home
e. Continuous education of all staff on personal hygiene
f. Accommodations for staff to work from home, when possible
g. Staff are requested to stay at home if they are not feeling well

Servicing Equipment:

a. Troubleshoot all service calls over the phone to reduce our on-site presence
b. For on-site service calls, our technician will follow the customer’s COVID-19 procedures
c. Social distancing will be recognized to eliminate contact while on-site
d. Nitrile, latex free disposable gloves are worn at all times while on-site and are changed between each service call
e. Customer signature is no longer required on Service Orders to limit the handling of paperwork
f. Work surfaces, benches, equipment and tools are thoroughly sanitized each day – this will be done prior and post all service calls

Deliveries:

a. Check in with the owner/operator at the delivery location to ensure our staff conform to the their expectations regarding cleanliness and hygiene
b. Social distancing expectations and elimination of contact in greetings
c. Nitrile, latex free disposable gloves will be worn by delivery drivers and changed between deliveries
d. Customer signature is no longer required on Invoices upon delivery to limit handling of paperwork
e. If acceptable, drivers will drop deliveries at the door and take a picture with their phones showing the goods were delivered

Warehouse Procedures:

a. Screen non-employees prior to entry into our facilities
b. Offer hand sanitizer at all entrances
c. Clean and sanitize all surfaces on a daily basis
d. Customer pickups will be accepted, however, our warehouse will load customers’ vehicles and sign and date the invoice as loaded. Customers will be left their copy of the invoice with the product
e. Due to health concerns, returns will not be accepted at this time

These are very difficult times for everyone and we want you to know that we are taking all safety measures very seriously. We are continually monitoring the situation regarding COVID-19 and we aim to be proactive in our actions to help ensure the safety and well-being of our staff and community in order for us to ensure that we provide consistent quality and safe service and products to our valued customers.
